Professional liability insurance: German lawyers and German patent attorneys are all required to take out professional liability insurance according to the provisions of the German Federal Lawyers’ Act (BRAO) and the German Patent Attorney Act (PAO), respectively. The minimum insurance sum for law firms is EUR 2,500,000.00. Further details are contained in Secs 51, 59j (2) German Federal Lawyers’ Act (BRAO),

In the event of disputes between attorneys and their clients, it is possible, upon request, to seek out-of-court dispute resolution through the regional bar associations (pursuant to § 73(2)(3) in conjunction with § 73(5) of the Federal Lawyers’ Act (BRAO)) or through the Bar Association’s Mediation Board (pursuant to § 191 et seq. BRAO) at the Federal Bar Association, which can be found online via the Federal Bar Association’s website at http://www.brak.de.

In the event of disputes between patent attorneys and their clients, out-of-court dispute resolution is available upon request through the Chamber of Patent Attorneys (pursuant to § 69 (2) No. 3 PAO), http://www.patentanwalt.de
